Definition
A hereditary disease of the bones of the middle ear that is characterized by chronic progressive deafness, especially for low tones. Some people may also experience dizziness, balance problems, or tinnitus (a sensation that is often referred to as "ringing in the ears", although some people hear hissing, roaring, whistling, chirping, or clicking).
