Definition
A chronic, life-shortening myeloproliferative disorder involving all bone marrow elements that is characterized by an increase in red blood cell mass and hemoglobin concentration. Symptoms include weakness, fatigue, vertigo, tinnitis, irritability, enlarged spleen, flushing of the face, redness and pain in the extremities and black-and-blue spots.
