Definition
An acute and sometimes chronic infectious disease which is caused by the presence of protozoan parasites within red blood cells. Malaria is characterized by recurrent chills, fever, and sweats in that order with pathological manifestations of progressive anemia, splenic enlargement and depositation in various organs of melanin (the material that is responsible for pigmentation).
