Definition
A rare viral disease spread to humans via contact with an infected animal (prairie dogs in a North American outbreak). The disease in humans is characterized by a cough, a rash and swollen lymph nodes. The incubation period for the illness is about 12 days. Limited person-to-person spread of infection has been reported in the areas in Africa where the disease in endemic.
