People at Risk for Committing Homicide

Definition
Individuals who exhibit behaviors or other risk factors that are thought to be associated with homicide. Included are a history of violence and thoughts of doing harm; threats against identifiable others; poor impulse control; an inability to delay gratification; impairment or loss of reality testing especially with delusional beliefs or command hallucinations; feelings of being controlled by an outside source; the belief that other people wish to harm him or her; the perception of rejection or humiliation at the hands of others; a history of substance abuse (current intoxication substantially heightens the risk of violence); and a past history of serious head injury, epilepsy or neurological impairment.
