Definition
Programs that help nonprofit organizations, small businesses and other groups plan and conduct an objective study which examines the feasibility of a particular course of action, (e.g., launching a fundraising campaign, merging with another organization or implementing a new project) by testing the assumptions on which the original plan is based and determining whether success is likely. A well-designed feasibility study should reveal real and perceived strengths and weaknesses, perceptions of the organization in the community at large, effective leaders for the effort, optimum timing, alternative approaches, allies and opponents and potential donors (if a fundraising project) or other sources of support. The study should result in a written report that includes the study findings and recommendations, and a project plan, timetable, and budget.
