Definition
Programs that help nonprofit organizations and other groups develop proposals to obtain outside funding from foundations, corporations, government and other sources. Steps in the proposal development process include clearly defining the project, its goals, objectives and outcomes; identifying likely funding sources; contacting funders for proposal guidelines and submission deadlines; developing the proposal including a statement of need, a description of the method and process for accomplishing goals and objectives, the method of evaluation, project timelines, organizational and/or staff credentials, a project budget, supporting materials and authorized signatures; submitting the proposal; and following up with the funding source to determine the status, evaluation and outcome of the proposal.
