Presentence Investigation

Programs within the court and probation systems or offered by community agencies that investigate the background of convicted offenders and issue reports that can be used as sentencing guides by the court. The reports focus on the situation surrounding the criminal activity; the educational, employment and medical history of the individual; the criminal record of the offender; the environment to which the offender will return; resources available to help the offender; and recommendations for disposition of the case.
