Definition
Identification cards issued by Mexican Consulate offices that bear the Mexican citizen's photograph, name, address in the U.S. and the card carrier's birth date and birth place in Mexico. The cards do not replace a visa or passport but, in some cases, may serve as a secondary source of identification; and are accepted by many banks as valid ID for Mexican citizens wanting to open a checking or savings account (matricula account).
