Definition
Programs that provide information and guidance in a variety of settings for individuals who have been fired, laid off or have otherwise been terminated from their jobs and/or for people who keep their jobs during a period of staff reduction when friends and co-workers do not. Counseling is generally provided during the weeks following separation and focuses on helping individuals deal with their anger, sadness, sense of powerlessness, guilt (in the case of survivors) and other feelings about their own job loss or that of another and the positive steps they can take to move on.
