The department partners with the community to reduce and prevent crime in the city's neighborhoods. The Office of the Chief of Police administers and manages the police department, supervises all department personnel, establishes department policies, prepares the police department budget, approves department expenditures, and implements city directives ordered by the mayor.

The Victim Advocates team provides guidance, resources, and referrals to fit the unique needs of crime victims. The Advocates assist victims after the following types of crimes: assault, domestic violence, child abuse, DUI - fatal, homicide, sexual assault, stalking/harassment, suicide and traumatic loss, and other violence crimes.
